2020 Mid-Atlantic APWA WRX Update Due to the current status with COVID-19, the Mid-Atlantic APWA Chapter cancelled the 2020 Mid-Atlantic WRX Conference. The 2021 Mid-Atlantic WRX Conference will be scheduled for May 11-14, 2021 in Virginia Beach. For those who have already registered we can either carry your registration/sponsor fees over to the 2021 conference or issue a refund.
This year's conference will be held in beautiful Virginia Beach, Virginia. Our theme is 2020 Vision - Focus on the Future - join us to learn more about how your agency can focus on the future through public works efforts. The APWA WRX technical conference provides everyone the opportunity to learn about advanced techniques and cutting-edge technologies being employed across the Mid-Atlantic. Download the Technical Program Download the Technical Program Descriptions We are happy to welcome Dr. Michael Mollenhauer, Director of the Center for Technology Implementation at the Virginia Tech Transportation Institute (VTTI), as our keynote speaker whose most recent work focuses on developing C-V2X (cellular vehicle to everything) technologies to support work zone safety, intersection safety applications, and safe interaction between automated vehicle and public safety professionals, and yes, THAT INCLUDES YOU! Additionally, each of you will have the chance to network with many equipment vendors, manufacturing representatives, public agency specialists, construction companies, and engineering firms. Our technical program promises to feature a diverse range of presentations covering the latest solutions to some of the toughest challenges facing Public Works professionals. This year's conference will be held at the Virginia Beach Convention Center and hotel accommodations will be at the NEW Virginia Beach Marriott Oceanfront. A new change, we moved the Golf Tournament up a day to Tuesday, which reduces conference conflicts for the Equipment ROADEO and allows us to open the Exhibit Hall at 1:00 on Wednesday. In addition to opening the Exhibit Hall early, we are also adding three training sessions in the exhibit hall on Wednesday afternoon that include Drone Operations, Work Zone Safety and Ethics & Customer Service, keep your eyes and ears open for additional information. For many of us, this conference is our opportunity to reconnect with colleagues and friends throughout the Chapter and that is why we are also adding a Young Professional and Public Works Institute Social on Wednesday evening at Smartmouth Brewing Virginia Beach Pilot House.
